Huck Finn Readers Response #3 (chp. 14 - chp.18)

The thing that impresses Huck about the Grangerford’s house is they have locks on the doors and they also had new rag carpet on the floor. Huck’s view of success and happiness is having new clothes and having servants for every body in the house and being able to have new things like carpet. “As soon as I was in, the old gentleman he locked the door and barred it and bolted it, and told the young men to come in with their guns, and they all went in a big parlor that had a new rag carpet on the floor.” (chp.17 pg.73 par.4)

The books in the house are so special because they are poems written by Emmeline. Huck is interested in the books because he had never read or seen those kinds of books before in his life. Huck also found interesting was the pictures in the book. Huck’s view of education is that it is really important to have education. Mark Twain’s view of education is you need have an education. “They was different from any pictures I ever see before.” (chp.17, pg. 76, par3)

The unique thing about the drawings, poems, and the scrapbook is that 15 year old Emmeline did all those things before she died and she was really good at what she did. Emmeline was obsessed with the people who died in accidents and cases of patient of suffering, when she did that she would make poems about them. The significance of the painting is that which ones would be the best and the rest to be scratched out. Huck’s view of death is that it was something to be sad about when someone dies.
Huck’s view of suicide must be a scary thing for him. Huck’s view of art might be a very good thing to do and see. Huck is so touched by the girl’s life and art because she was very talented at what she did and she was living a very good life. “And Art Thou Gone Yes Thou Art Gone Alas”. ( chp.17, pg.77, par.1)

Reader Response 2: Huck Finn (7 - 13)

“I did wish Tom Sawyer was there, I knowed he would take an intrest in this kind of business.” (chap.7, pg25,par 2)
Huck is positively influenced by Tom Sawyer because Huck is doing things that Tom would like to do in his spare time like play stealing from people and camping out in the forest, but only Huck is doing it for real. Huck is also influenced by how Tom thinks and looks at things in his own was.

"I took an old sack and put a lot of big rocks in it, - all I could drag - and I started it from the pig and dragged it to the door through the woods down to the river and dumped it in, and down it sunk, out of sight. You could easy see that something had been dragged over the ground."(Chap.7, pg.25,par 2)
Huck is negatively influenced by Pap because of the things he does and how he treats Huck. All that negativity caused Huck to run away and fake his own death.

Huck is influenced by Widow Douglas because there were something that he remembered her saying to him about stealing from other people and how that was a bad thing to do. "The widow said it warn't anything but a soft name for stealing, and no decent body would do it." (chap 12, pg 49, par 3)
She has like taught him a good thing that he remembered even though he took the food any way.

Huck is influenced by Jim because of how brave he is and there are somethings he has seen and Huck never seen before in his life. "You hold still -I'll go en see."(Chap.9, pg 38, par3)
Jim didn't want Huck to go in at the same as Jim because Jim is use to seeing terrible things being done to other people and Huck has never seen anything before.

Reader Response 1: Huck Finn (1 - 6)

Relationship to Parents:

" Pap he hadn't been seen for more than a year, and that was comfortable for me; I didn't want to see him no more."(chap.3, par4., pg.9)

Huck didn't want to see his pap any more becuse pap would beat on him when he would go to see him, and he would always be jrunk when he beat on him.

I think that the quote is sad because Huck said that he feels more comfortable when pap was not around. I think that shows you as parent how selfish you are towards your own child that you are to buisees getting drunk all the time and can't take care of your own child. I think the relationship to parent is bad because Pap is not their to take care of his responsibillitise as a parent by not being around for Huck in a positive way. I can't really relate this to my life because I live with both of my parents and I don't really have that kind of problem.

Mark Twain Might think that the quote is disapponiting because of what Huck Finn said about pap. Mark Twain might think the relationship between Huck and Pap is bad because of how pap is drunk all the time and take care of Huck. this relates to Mark Twain's life is by it was just Mark and his brother growing up they didn't have parents to raise them.
